Every year on Liberation Day, the Anton de Komplein becomes something worth seeing. Local artists, a freedom market run by Zuidoost entrepreneurs, live music, workshops, and food — all in the open air. The kind of celebration that belongs to the neighbourhood rather than the city centre.
Location: Anton de Komplein
Free entry | 14:00 – 21:00

A theatre and music production about women’s stories, with a full programme around it: a book market, a Nani-café, a workshop on female leadership, and Hindostaans-Surinamese snacks before the show. The kind of evening that doesn’t fit neatly into one category.
Location: Bijlmer Parktheater
Saturday starts at 20:00 | Sunday starts at 15:00

Kaseko is the sound that came out of Suriname and never really left. Clifton Braam brings it live to the Bijlmer Parktheater. Very danceable, layered, and completely its own thing.

Thursday 15:00 – 17:00 | Friday 20:00 – 23:00

Kwaku started in 1975 as a football tournament for kids in the Bijlmer who couldn’t go on holiday. Fifty years later it draws 300,000 people over four weekends. Music, food from every corner of the diaspora, sports, debates, and a Pink Sunday that’s become one of Amsterdam’s best-known queer celebrations.

Kassav’ (31 July)
